Since the weather is holding up we went back to our favorite Stay-Cay spot (Peggy’s beautifully appointed backyard) and tried some Rose. We were fortunate enough to get our hands on some McBride Sister’s Rose. We also tried the YellowTail Rose. There was no real comparison. Both are Rose’s, both were enjoyed, but they are different.
Yellow Tail’s was something we considered lighter. It’s definitely something I’d pair with my dinner standby this past summer — Chicken Salad (made with chopped fresh garlic, spring onion, cracked black pepper and dried cranberries) served on whatever cracker I had on hand. Don’t @ me. We had a lot of days over 100 in NYC & I wasn’t turning on a stove). The YellowTail would complement that perfectly. Light, tasty and refreshing.
The MCBride Sister’s Black Girl Magic on the other hand was deeper in every way. Deeper color, deeper flavor, deeper intensity. This is a Rose that can stand up to your grill and keep things fresh. We’d pair this with a pork loin and veggies seasoned and perfectly cooked outside on a smokey grill. This wine is also refreshing, but again, deeper.
Shout out to our friends at Happy Cork, THE ONLY PLACE you can get Black Girl Magic in the 5 boroughs. We ENJOYED that immensely!.

Recently I had the opportunity to spend about 1/2 a day in the Atl. Hartsfield Airport. I’d been traveling all day and it was after 3 p.m., and I hadn’t eaten anything all day. Once I arrived at my terminal and gate, I looked for someplace to relax and enjoy a meal. C+B was close to the gate.
C+B is Chicken and Beer, Chris (Ludacris) Bridges restaurant. I didn’t really want chicken and it was kinda early in the day for beer, but my next flight was scheduled for 6 p.m. but since I wasn’t driving it was Beer O’clock. I checked the menu and noticed that the fare was particularly southern. The prices were reasonable and with menu items like black eyed pea humus things could go really right or really wrong. The waitress went over the specials with me and arranged for me to have an appetizer of Fried Green tomatoes, which were a garnish and not really a menu item. I also had the fried oysters with remoulade sauce. My waitress recommend a beer they had on tap that would complement the po’boy which was a new menu item. The bartender sent me Archers Mexican Empire on tap. It’s a dark lager very similar to Modelo’s.
Bite, chew, sip, repeat. The Oysters were briny and the recommended beer complemented them perfectly. The green tomatoes were perfection and I washed everything down with the beer. It was a nice way to pass the time while I waited for my flight, which was delayed until 8 that eve. Comfort food, beer, wine and spirits. Couldn't ask for a better evening!
